The goal of MSF is to help relieve middle schoolers’ anxiety about the transition to high school.
The SCC and our Mental Health Advisory Committee in particular is concerned about the toll that the stress of distance learning, social isolation, economic concerns, and the inability to plan for the near future has taken on adults and kids in the community. We are including a range of resources here to address these needs.
The SCC has brought national bestselling authors and experts on parenting to discuss resiliency, grit, the perils of over-parenting, disconnecting from technology and connecting and communicating with one another.
The Safe Community Coalition sponsored a summer pilot of a program designed by and for students: WeCoach:Student2Student (S2S). The pilot programhigh school and college students to facilitate circles with small groups of peers. It was a great opportunity to get support and give support to others during this tough time. Each circle was facilitated by a peer who has been trained, mentored, and supported by adult certified coaches.
This program serves all 6th graders in the McLean and Langley school pyramids, with the goal of helping students navigate difficult ethical situations.
The Mental Health Committee vets all programs and events to ensure that our mission is met and that our content is relevant and impactful.
The purpose of the YAC is to develop a leadership mindset and some foundational leadership skills in high school youth.
The faith community continues to engage and support various SCC activities.

Project Sticker Shock is a way to blend SCC, Law Enforcement, and local students in a positive and highly visible activity.
