Did you know that at some point, anxiety affects 30 percent of children and adolescents, yet 80 percent never get help? Untreated anxiety disorders are linked to depression, school failure and a two-fold increase in risk for substance use disorder. Yet, while many young people struggle with anxiety, most have trouble talking about it.

Please join the Safe Community Coalition and the McLean PTSA for a free screening of Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety Thursday, December 6 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. This IndieFlix Original documentary includes interviews with kids, teens, experts, educators, parents and a special interview with Olympian and mental health advocate Michael Phelps to raise awareness about anxiety, to share the stories of those who it impacts and to help find solutions. The documentary also delves into the root causes and sociological effects of the disorder and resources available to combat anxiety.

Following the screening of Angst, mental health professionals from the Safe Community Coalition, including SCC Board member and McLean parent Dr. Melissa Sporn, will lead a panel discussion and question and answer session.

Mark your calendars now for this important, informative and inspiring event. You won’t want to miss it!
